Bear in the Thelma area!Stopped by Trade/Hess mart at 10th and Bolling tonight and after paying, struck up a conversation with a guy that lives in the vicinity of the deep creek bridge on thelma road. he was telling me and a friend about the big black bear that had been seen numerous times in the past week in the area - actually crossing the bridge TWICE - right down the centerline.
I asked him how big - he replied "really big". I can't imagine hitting a bear while crossing the old lake on this bridge.
anyone else seen a bear in this or any other part of the county?

There has been a couple of reports of a bear being seen in town too!

I have seen a bear there on the lake myself, but on the other side of the water. The herald did an article on the bear sightings at the RRL about a year or two back.

I saw one near SE Halifax HS last spring. He crossed the road just a little bit in front of me on my way to work one morning.
A couple years ago I was driving back from Ahoskie one evening and a bear charged out and hit the side of an F-150 in front of me. I swerved to avoid him and just ran over part of him. We got out and checked the damage and both vehicles were fine (he ran into the tire apparently). We drove back to find him and he had walked away. Pretty crazy drive home.
