Obama’s Budget CUT Funding For Iran’s Democracy Movement
June 20, 2009 |
Granted, Obama cut the funds before this revolution(?) started, but talk about being on the wrong side of history.

OUTRAGE!!
Obama cuts funding to democracy protesters in Iran!

The left couldn’t find one project they could scale back so we could continue funding the opposition of our worst enemy? Was it really more important that people get money for turning in their old cars for new ones? Was it really more important that Americorps and ACORN get billions of dollars, rather than fund the enemy of our enemy?

This is what progressivism looks like!

UPDATE: This from Newsmax

Obama spent more time with TV personality Stephen Colbert, taping a segment for a comedy show, than he did addressing the turmoil in Iran this week.

Newsmax has learned that the Obama administration also has zeroed out funding for pro-democracy programs inside Iran from the State Department budget for fiscal 2010, just as protests in Iran are ramping up.

I think the young people of Iran want democratic change.  They'll never see it without our help.
THE CURE

Haven't you people had enough "regime change" to last you for a while? We are still trying to get out of the last war the Republicans got us in to. The current administration is going to have to deal with the elected government of Iran. I don't know how that could happen if we were overtly trying to overthrow the current Iranian government. If you guys would ever think further ahead than yesterday we might be ok.
Kestrel

The democracy movement in Iran actually does NOT want support from the US. They don't want to be seen as a movement generated by the US. That would give the Iranian government an excuse to crush the movement. Right now the Iranian leadership is trying to paint the democracy movement as puppets of the US. Best thing for the people of US and Iran is for the US to keep hands off for now, and drop hints that elections need to be seen as legitmate by all parties.
Outsider

Republicans lost all credibility on supporting democracy in other countries in 1989.  I believe a Bush was in office then.

Tiananmen Square will forever be remembered as a political rally that turned into a bloody massacre viewed on live television.

THE CURE

Do none of you realize that this outpouring in Iran is a direct result of President Obama's speech in Cairo? The man is a foreign policy genius. Let him do his job.
