Cheney Target Of Bomb

Dick Cheney was the target for a Taliban bomb. They missed. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article...2/27/international/i034925S00.DTL

Well, that is what they claim.
he who must not be named

One of my friends was nearby. Everyone in his team are ok.

You know, it is funny to hear some people's responses. Kestrel, I don't think there is a "silver lining" anywhere where you won't look for and find a "dark cloud". Are you one of those "glass half-empty" kind of folks? How about, thank God "our" vice-president is safe and the nation and his family are spared the tragedy of what could have occured. Give me a break.

Actually my comment meant that the bombers claim they targeted Cheney. The bombers might have found out that Cheney was there after they attacked. Anyway, what made them think that Cheney would be anywhere near the entrance used by the locals. I mean that sounds really secure.

But I don't think the current vice-president is worth anyone elses life. Personally my first thought was "Gee, what a tragedy they didn't get Cheney instead of everyone else who died."

And I see why you call yourself "flyupsidedown"...

Anyway, it's similar to how I think it was a pity that the Allies didn't blow up Hilter instead of killing all those germans.

Are you smoking, drinking, sniffing, shooting something? Hitler? Geez man, get a grip. If you feel that strong about him what do you plan to do about it?

Did you ever sit in a chair when you were a kid, with your butt facing the back and your head hanging down to the floor looking "upsidedown" at everything in the room? It is a whole unique perspective of everything you've ever seen . . . known. Sometimes you should flip your perspective.

Do what is legal and vote in the next set of characters who will hopefully patch this country up. To bad the majority were screwed up these past few elections... Anyhow, I said "similar", not "exactly". Sheesh....

Ironic since you are pushing the misguided perspective that is doing nothing but destroying this country and world. Sounds like fight fire with fire, but so far it has achieved nothing but burning everything down.

funny, those were my exact same first thoughts. Laughing

Wherein lies the "similarity"? Do you want him dead or not big shot? Or maybe just seriously maimed and incompacitated? which is it? History is yet to be written on how this war turns out. I hope the next Pres. has the strength of character to maintain the front against terrorism. We all need to be praying for Gen. Patraeus that he succeeds instead of hoping for a Vietnam style failure so you can leap around screaming "I told you so, I told you so". If the politicians continue trying to pull the rug out from under him that is exactly what we'll have. And, come Nov. you will see a backlash vote against the Dems like never before.
Kestrel

Cheney and Hitler both were pushers of policies that cause(d) great damage to the world. Yes, Hitler was much worse (at least in the cost of lives), but we all would have been better off without them.

And you can bet your upsidedown ass that I am hoping they succeed, but with 4+ years of the situation getting worse and worse, I don't see how Gen. Patraeus has any hope of succeeding. So I end up asking myself, is failure worth more lives? Of course not. The chance of it working is nil (even though I wish it would), and it is guaranteed to cost more lives, so we should cut our losses. And the backlash against the Dems because they didn't get us out sooner will pale to the backlash against the Republicans because they started another Vietnam.

You don't ever see much except for a perpetual falling sky. I don't have time to waste. Hope you find that lady someday.

Prior to "Shock and Awe", there were many prominent rational, learned, informed people CALMLY pleading with Bush & his criminal co-horts NOT to enter into this false war!
Many good people predicted accurately what the consequences would be and informed accurately of what the actual TRUTH of the situation was. (and is) They were characterized by the rabid right wingers as unpatriotic and incompetent. They were not treated respectfully, that's for SURE! The military advisors were even ignored! (okay, there was some justified screaming at that point)
There should be absolutely NO satisfaction in saying I told you so, ESPECIALLY after having said, PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! The reality for too many military families and innocent Iraqi people is depressing and sad, and it's a damned shame.

When we went into this war based on a stack of lies-and the 1st man died-it was a failure.

There is a 4 year history of tragic incompetence and failure thus far. BUT, let's just combine those last two thoughts of yours and look to a future hypothesis: What if the politicians (Dems and Repubs) pull the rug and take the reins and fix this disaster? Then, will future historians consider it a Bush success OR thank God in SPITE of Dumbya!? God help whoever takes the reins.
