Dr. Kervorkian to be released

This is a grey area to me, on one hand I don't feel he had the right to play God....But they did seek his assistance. Working in a nursing home I have seen people who were in agony & wishing to die...I guess to those people he would be as an angel to them. All I know for myself is, I could never assist anyone to die.

Well, I like to think that several unassociated doctors screen folks who are assisted to die, after all, you don't want folks with mental problems getting help to die when they think that it is the only solution, but it isn't. But, I don't like the idea of someone suffering horrible pain with no hope of getting well, when they could end it.

Yep....that's exactly how I feel Kestrel, seeing people suffer is heartbreaking especially when it is a loved one. My grandmother suffered greatly the last 3 months of her life, and when she finally passed away it was a relief knowing she was no longer in pain.

I have a few that I work with that I wouldn't hesitate to assist.

I just now thought about when my father worked as a nurse. He used to have many patients who were on their way out, but still suffered from pain. My father told me that he wondered why they didn't shoot these folks up with morphine and other drugs, after all, they are not going to live long enough to get adicted anyway. But I just heard on CBS News about hospice care where patients are hooked up to a pain killer supply, so perhaps this care has gotten better.

I believe in assisted suicide for terminally ill people. If I was diagnosed with cancer and in the final stage in agonizing pain, I would pray for someone to help me end my suffering. But this is just my opinion! Sorry if I offend anyone!

Sweetlaskergirl, I bet their are those out there that were in their final stages and in all of that pain that was assisted. Because you think about it when they get that way or at least I know in the case that I am talking about the Dr told the nurse to give them as much morphine as she need to. Just keep them comfortable and out of so much pain. An I know for a fact that the person I am talking about was given morphine everytime she groaned the night that she died. So in away you do have assisted suicide everyday. The only difference is that they will be dead in another day or two anyway and they are either in a hospital or in the case that I am speaking up she was at home. But I do know we had morphine running like water in that house that day. And yes if I was dieing I and was in my final stages I would want someone to assist me along the way.
