I know smaller kids that are more to deal with than larger children. They really shouldn't have said that -- they'll really get criticized for that quote.
Maybe they felt it was the right thing to do.
If you knew your child had a high probability of breast cancer (which mine is), and you had a means to stop it early on -- what would you be willing to do?
Granted, I wouldn't have gone to the extreme this family did. Perhaps they weren't well educated on the treatment possibilities and how this child could have lived to as close to a normal life as possible despite the disabilities.
