Family Pet shot by Roanoke Rapids PoliceI happened on this story on the Herald's guestbook. It seems that someone's pet had gotten loose and during the attempt by the animal control officer and RR police to catch the dog the dog was shot 6 times. I wasn't there and I've really only read one side of the story but 6 TIMES? To top it off the owner of the dog was issued a ticket for $500 for letting the dog run loose. If anyone has any info other than what I posted I would love to hear it.

I was partying with Brandon on New Year's Eve and I can assure you firsthand that was not a vicious animal. If anything it was the exact opposite. This is some bullshit.

i can't believe that happened. that is bogus. 6 times? for a freakin boxer puppy? they don't lunge to bite! they want to play! i know this! i regularly keep a female boxer for a friend. And that dog plays with my chihuahua better than anything! And the boxer I am familiar with is in a home with a 3 yr old and a 14 month old attempting to walk. I can't believe an officer would go to such extremes. I mean come on, its not like it was a 300lb 6'4'' man coming at him! It was a freaking puppy! I don't know Brandon, but Im very sorry this happened. To slap a fine on him is ludacris- Chucky Burnette should have to appologize publically for being a MORON.

That is pretty pathetic to shoot an animal 6 times...Geez, even if the dog was vicious ( which I highly doubt ) I am sure it was wounded enough after the 1st shot not to be a danger to either one of them.

I see where the neighbor used mace on the dog initially. I would think that would be the weapon of choice when dealing with an animal, not your pistol.

I agree but I can't belive that the Animal Control Officer didn't go to the door and ask someone about the dog. Why would you just call for "back up" and not just ask the owner to come get your dog. I still don't think we're hearing all the details.

im sure we aren't. but supposedly the officer owns a boxer and should know that the dog wasn't vicious. and even if it were, like kim said- ONE shot in the leg or hip or something would've been sufficent in stopping the dog from an attack. SIX is retarded for even a human being, much less a 56lb puppy.

I don't know when it would be appropriate to shoot a dog. Even if the dog was attacking someone you would risk hitting the person being attacked. If he was attacking the officer with the gun I can see self defense but 6 times?

i don't recall him attacking anyone. i recall reading the dog ran towards him. puppies wanna play.

Why do you call for back up? Doesn't the Animal Control Officer have the authority to issue a ticket? I wish we could get the guy who owned the dog to come here and further explain what went on.

His mom posted elsewhere. Though apparently there has been a bit of an argument between this neighbor and Lisa/Brandon. He apparently got out several times, and they claim they were attempting to remedy the situation of having a temporary gate the dog could easily escape from.

the dog wasn't a permanent resident of the house, it lived in boone with brandon. it only visited rorap
