If you scroll down to the graph you can see this years compared to previous years. Seems to be on the upswing. This could be because of better reporting and the international hysteria surrounding H1N1 "swine flu"

Seems the flu season is beginning to kick in. On the chart last week the only region labeled "elevated" was Region 4 which is the region NC is in. Now 7 other regions have joined the ranks of "elevated" ILI or 'Influenza Like Illnesses' documented Outpatients. ◦The 2009-10 influenza season officially begins October 4, 2009.
