Jon Baker for city councilThings are looking pretty good for Jon. I've heard some of the policeman are going to endorse Jon soon. What will that say for Lawson's leadership?

Are City employees allowed to endorse anyone?

Probably at the peril of their job but i'm sure they are. Didn't some officers lose their jobs for not endorsing Lawson for Chief a while back?

It's illegal for local government employees to endorse candidates.

I have been looking at the "Hatch Act". I could be wrong - maybe it is ok for city employees to endorse a candidate.
I need to look some more.
Other than the legalities, it could be prudent for a current employee to be sure to endorse the candidate that wins.

I can't find any limitations on free speech in city policy. Where did you see it at?

I think it's related to the Hatch Act.
If there's any federal money - I think I read recently that the PD was receiving some Homeland Security grant money to upgrade computers and their records system. They would be suject to the Hatch Act provisions because of the Federal moneys.
Most local governments (counties and cities) have limitations imposed on politicking by their employees.
