Medical benefits

There is a lot of talk about the rising cost of health care. What do you pay for your medical benefits and how good are they?
Nighthawk

I'm with the state, so mine, and Kestrels too I assume, are pretty damn good.

I currently don't have any, I am a nurses aide & the company I work for only offers supplemental which isn't worth diddly. Sad
Kestrel

Yeah, mine is with the state, and it is okay. The copays and deductables were increasing like crazy a few years ago, but they seem to have stopped the huge increases for now. But some businesses do offer better insurance coverage than the state does, or at least that is what I hear.

I pay about $125 a month for medical and dental. That covers me and my family and pays 100% after a $350 deductible for medical. Dental pays 80% and covers 2 check-ups a year for everyone at no cost. Its a pretty good plan overall.

I have vision thru VSP, dental and medical thru BC/BS at my work (family coverage), great co-pay plans and I have all kind of life insurance on the family and myself, critical illness, cancer plan, short term, long term disability and it hits me up for like $280 a month, thats even with the half million term life insurance policy on myself.
Kestrel

Mine is free (only me), and I got the PPO coverage offered by BC/BS. I haven't bothered to get any other insurance (life, cancer, disability, etc). The plan has a $300 deductible each year ($600 out of network), 20% coinsurance after deductible (40% if out of network) with a $1,750 max ($3,500 if out of network), $20-$40 copayment to see a doctor, $200 copayment for ER, and $150 copayment for inpatient. It also has a $20 copayment for eye care if in network, but my eye doctor isn't, so I pay the whole bill. Co-pay ranges from $10-50 for drugs, depending on if they are generic, preferred Rx w/o generic, perferred Rx w/ generic, or non-preferred Rx. Oh, and there is no dental coverage included.

Whew, was that long enough?!?

Just got my benefits through work, BC/BS but haven't used it yet. This is the first time in SEVEN years I have had insurance!!!!! Very Happy

Yea thats what I'm switched to this enrollment period Kestrel. When I got hired my wife was 3-4 months pregnant, so I knew we were going to be spending time at the hospital, so I thought it would be worth it to pay up for the 90/10 family coverage deal. Other than that we are pretty healthy, so I think the 80/20 will save us more money.

I will say that my insurance was cheaper at Enterprise when I was renting cars, but not much cheaper. It was through United Healthcare too. I think the reason they had much cheaper rates was because it is mainly a young company that has such a high turnover that you see almost no one older than mid 30s.

My COBRA through the county recently ended and I had to purchase my own, which is helahigh! To ridiculous to even mention I think. My hubby purchases his own w/ lower ded and stuff and pays much less.

I could get a cheaper plan too but I like the 100% coverage after the deductible. One less thing I have to worry about.
he who must not be named

federal benefits for me.
Kestrel

Yeah, my parents have no coverage too. I didn't have coverage either until I got a job with NC government. My father cut open his hand with a circular saw a couple years ago, and had to pay the $10,000 bill himself. He managed to talk them down a few grand, but still, that seems hella high for just sewing together a hand. A bit of nerve damage, but the doctor elected not to reattach it...

And I don't want to start a flame war, but with the talk of RVRS being non-profit, I got to thinking, is BC/BS still non-profit?
