Obama Calls Kanye West a 'Jackass'

President lashes out at the hip-hop artist in an off-the-record comment during a television interview, an ABC News anchor reported Monday evening on Twitter.

President Barack Obama called hip-hop musician Kanye West a "jackass" on Monday in an off-the-record comment during an interview with CNBC, an ABC News anchor reported on Twitter.

Obama was apparently weighing in on an interruption that occurred the night before during the MTV Video Music Awards where West grabbed the microphone from teen country singer Taylor Swift during her award acceptance speech to announce his belief that Beyonce had a better music video.

"Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," "Nightline" co-anchor Terry Moran wrote Monday evening to his more than 1 million followers.

The tweet forced the network to issue an apology after the Internet quickly became abuzz over the stunning remark published on the microblogging site.

An ABC spokesperson said, "In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview," Politico reported. "This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again."

Moran's tweet has since been deleted, but can still be accessed.

West, who is no stranger to controversy, apologized for the incident after Sunday night's MTV broadcast and again Monday night during an interview on the premiere of NBC's "Jay Leno Show."

West told Leno he's going to take some time off to reflect and that "it was rude, period."

"I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyze how I'm going to make it through the rest of this life, how I'm going to improve. If there's anything I could do to help Taylor in the future or help anyone, I'd like to," he said.

The White House had no immediate comment on the matter, Politico reported.

He hit the nail on the head - Kanye is a jackass! I read somewhere that 50 cent stated he wishes Kanye would take the mike out of his hand. That would be some funny stuff - watching 50 demolish him in front of everyone.

No kidding! I felt terrible for that poor girl. Not even a fan of her music, but Kanye made an ass of himself.

Hell to the yeah. This is the way people argue now right? Scare tactics, foolishness, outright stupidity and fallacy? Smile

Anyway, I'm sick of people saying Obama is a socialism/wants socialism. First of all, LOOK UP SOCIALISM. Soviet Russia gave it a bad name, because government took over absolutely everything, even newspapers, etc... Come on people. We Are America. We will never get up our liberties and our freedoms.

There are a lot of things the government shouldn't interfere with and keep their hands off of, but health care isn't one of them.

Socialism is the concept that everyone, from all walks of life, should have access to the basic things they need. Food, water, clothes, shelter, and yes, even HEALTH. God forbid poor people be healthy. They need to sick so they can die off quicker, and their pennies can go to the rich to make them richer. Smile YAY RICH PEOPLE! Only rich people should be healthy! They are the only ones who deserve to get health care!

Right? Right.

SOCIALISM FTW!!!!!!

Not at all.

What I do agree with also was the tweeter statement "Now thats presidential"  How can Obuma call others liars and now a jackass, but Joe Wilson had the balls to say his right out in the open.  Unlike Obuma who doesn't want his thoughts or opinions public.  "Off the record"  what a crock!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe Wilson broke the rules of the House of Representatives jh. That's all there is to it. If he wants to go outside the House and say whatever he wants he can but the rules of the House limit what he can say in the chamber. Why are you trying to make it any more than what it is,  a violation of House rules?

jh, your "logic" is so out of wack. Obama was having a presidential interview. The Kanye comment was off-the-record casual speaking with the interviewer, and he broke a major rule of journalism by reporting an off-the-record comment. Now, Obama is a human being and entitled to think Kanye is a jackass just like every other person in American is right now. Are you saying he is not entitled to say Kanye is a jackass? If you are trying to say if he should have called another primetime speech to voice his opinions on the matter of Kanye, then you have a twisted reality of what the President deems as important enough to comment on publicly. Popculture just isn't usually one of them. (Michael Jackson being the exception, I suppose. haha)

Real simple. If you don't want people to know what you think then don't say it.  If you say it, man up and don't try to hide it.  It is as much about being a man as a president.  But yes The President should be held to a higher standard, but not this one I guess.

Yeah, that's just silly. No president has every single word uttered out of their mouth documented and broadcasted. Check out the new tell-all book by Bush's former speech writer. But I safely assume you probably believe such a book is completely fictitious, or that Bush is allowed to speak his mind off-the-record, whereas Obama is not?

Personally, I appreciate Obama's honesty and candidness. It shows that he says what he thinks, expressing true opinion and not something that has been written for him and handed to him before a speech.

When that cop harrassed that man for breaking into his own home because he was black, Obama said the policeman behaved stupidly. He's honest.

I like that in a President.

Also, I don't see where he has ever denied saying it.

Kanye is really feeling the backlash too, I think.  Jay Leno damn near made him cry, which (and I know this may sound mean) is exactly what he deserved for upsetting that poor girl and trying to outshine her in her moment.  And I have to say it was gracious and classy that Beyonce gave her the props she deserved and allowed her to come up on stage and finish her speech.

Couldn't agree more, Jas820!
