Where the field meets the woods at the new sub-division. They sit on the hill in the edge of that field so they can clock you once you come over the hill at Doc Murphrey's house if they wanted to.

I went through there one day last week and must have sensed ahead of time because I was going just above posted speed (to the dismay of the ones behind me)

I like to avoid taking the route through there just because it's 25mph, and I always seem to get behind the a$$&*!# who wants to do 15 instead.

That area has always been heavily patroled, I try and stay away from the 25 zones as well................speed traps suck, but hey then again, if we weren't speeding we wouldn't have to worry. I can say in my times I have had some pretty hefty breaks from speeding tickets.

**** knock wood **** So far to date I have never had a ticket of any kind. I too despise Old Farm Rd., but for me personally Roanoke Ave. sucks the most with the 20 mph speed limit......geeezzzzz, you have to pretty much take your foot off the gas & let the car drive itself to go that slow.
As for speed traps, the one I see the most would be the one past Presto & DR Sales near those power lines on Weldon Rd. ( the cops love sitting there )....Countless ppl get tickets there constantly.

It's still just a city ordinance ticket though isn't it?

Considering that Old Farm Rd is considered RESIDENTIAL from the light at the bank/service station on through the majority of Roanoke Rapids, I personally don't think they are doing enough to stop speeding on this road. I live on Old Farm Road, and can tell you that fewer than 10% of people traveling there do the posted speed limit. There are children that live in this subdivision, its only a matter of time before someone gets killed because of the lack of forethought in breaking traffic patterns.
I've watched emergency/police/city vehicles traveling far in excess of the posted speed limit (this is without light/sirens). Yea, I've seen a few folks pulled out here. I've noticed many if not the majority are getting away with only verbal warnings.
Sometime it takes more than 5 minutes to just get out of the driveway, as people come flying down from both directions.
Oh, and let's not forget the people that believe its just fine to gun it trying to pass someone doing the speed limit. In my humble opinion, speedbumps similar to the ones placed over near the 5th street neighborhood should be laid. This is a residential road. It was never intended to serve as a shortcut thru the city. Most annoying of all, are the folks that go tearing down this road with their music blaring...this is not peaceful enjoyment and the city needs to start owing up to responsibilities.

Speed bumps are ridiculous on Old Farm.

The NCDOT has a policy against speed bumps (though the section discussed here is not NCDOT maintained). The NCDOT considers them a roadway hazzard, and subdivisions that have them must remove them before they can be added to the State System.
I don't know if I consider Old Farm Road a speed trap. The section described is one of the faster sections, but usually they let you get away with up to 10mph above the speed limit. If it was signed as 35mph, I think people would be trying to do 45mph, and that wouldn't be a good with some of the tough sight distances they have out there. I think 25mph is about right for the speed limit.
Though I too find it hard to do 25mph through there. I've heard they offer a city ordinance ticket because then they don't have to give the fine money to the schools, and it saves the officer from having to go to court. Though that was for running a stop sign, but they probably do the same thing for speeding.

Anytime you can get the city deal and not the NC Uniform Citation, jump on it........it will not hike your auto insurance up or go against your driving record. And lets face it......all they want is the money to begin with, so it makes it better on all of us!
Speed bumps are crazy and bothersome as well. The ones put in over by Richard Shoe's house (can't remember the street name) have got to be the stupidest thing the city has ever done to a highway. I'd hate to think I had to travel that road to leave my house or come home to it. I agree with doing any kind of speed control but speed bumps.

If they don't want anyone using Old Farm Road as a cut through they should make it a dead end at Lion's Watch. That'll solve one problem.

Exactly, whether you like it not, Old Farm Road is one of about 3 feasible ways to get from the Hamburger Boulevard area to the other side of town, the others being 10th Street and 158. I do agree however that 25mph is about right for the set speed limit through there, because if you raise it up to 35, people will start going 50. If I'm ever heading across town and trying to do so in a timely manner, I use 158.

Well I do believe I'd rather be caught speeding than slinging dope. I don't have to worry about being put away for life for a speeding ticket.
