Cure:
You've got that backwards. You mean free religious suppression. Religious freedom is not in and of itself sacrosanct and is subject to our secular laws first and foremost. It may be your religious persuasion to have more than one wife. You will be arrested for it. It may be your religion to take minors for your spouse. Sorry against the law. It may be your religion to sacrifice humans in your rituals or mutliate animals. Do the crime you'll do the time. Sarkosy sees this as an oppression against women, which is what it is. How many of these women do you think, given the choice, would choose the Burqa over a selection from a modest women's shop? It is a sovereign nation and entitled to laws reflecting their national values. An emancipated woman would be included in that I imagine. |
