And thus, they are denied a fundamental right. The Founders never envisioned a nation where the majority prevailed at the expense of the minority. That's mobacracy, something they abhorred and warned against. They created a republic, where minority rights are equally as important AND protectedas majority rights. Paint it whatever way you wish, and justify and rationalize all you want, but a minority segment of our population is being denied a fundamental right, and there is no excuse for that. It is pathetic at best.

I could be wrong, but I didn't know marriage of any kind was a fundamental right?  Can you please show me that written somewhere?

Not really stating an opinion on the subject other than I belivie the founding fathers thoughts are clearly written.  as for majority vs minority rights, if I have to suffer threw Obuma because it was the will of the voters, then I guess its only fair that the Gays have to surfer also to the will of the voters.

I'd venture to say that the founding fathers never, in their wildest dreams, foresaw the possibility of gay marriage.  If they had, they would have banned it.

They didn't foresee many things.

(1) Slavery was not banned until 1865.
(2) You couldn't vote unless you were a certain color until 1870.
(3) Women couldn't vote until 1920.

What they did do was establish a Constitution that formed the branches of government to vote on and pass laws according to the established constitution.  They wisely didn't say what could and could not be considered or banned.  That would be left to the branches of government established.
That would be what we call democracy.  It's messy, but it's what we have to work with, like it or not.

wrong again.  Our founders established a Republic, a democratic (small 'd') Republic.  Big difference.

Conservatives claim they are against big government.
They want to shrink government.  They are for free markets, let the market place decide, keep government out of health care, etc. etc.  But wait, when it comes to their religious belief's they want to pass the Gay Marriage amendment, etc, etc.  Oh, big government is OK if it's their issue, if it's dictating their religion, their morality.

Which is it conservatives, Fly?  Are you really against big government for everything or just what you decide you want for everyone else?

And then there are Apples and then there are Oranges.  There is no such thing as Applanges.  Make up your mind what you are talking about.  Big Gov't denotes Gov't run programs costing into the billions, expanding the intrusive role of gov't and exacting the private property of citizens to pay for it.  The only reason conservatives both dem and rep seek to protect the institution of heterosexual marriage is because of the gay lobby's attempt to overthrow at least 5,000 years of tradition and morality.  I don't think it costs much to pass a law to secure what we already have.  We're talking about passing a law or amending the constitution not creating a monolithic mega-billion dollar gov't program.  Is that hard to understand?

When it comes right down to it, fundamentalist christians are just as scary and dangerous as fundamentalist muslims. If they had their way, their own version of "sharia law" would dictate every minute details of our lives.

Yeah, and let's see, . . . man made global warming is hear and Obama is the messiah.  Anything else?

and you might recite this pledge;

I pledge allegiance to the flag

of the United States of America

and to the

Republic for which it stands

one nation, under God

indivisible, with liberty and justice for all
